Combat Animation Temporary Parenting

Howdy All! I hope you’re doing lovely today. Truly. I’m working on a combat animation and I feel there must be a function to apply object constraints only on certain keyframes. I have no idea how to do this so I was hoping you lovely people could point me in the right direction.

Basically, I’d like to have the ik controller free until he grabs his rifle, have a temporary object constraint to his other hand (which is simulating the recoil), and then unbid it on the keyframe the recoil ends.

Is there a way to make this happen besides good ol fashion keyframing?



There is. You set and keyframe the influence of the constraint:

So if you want it to operate from frames 1-30 inclusive but not afterwards, you’d keyframe the influence to 1.0 at frame 1, 1.0 at frame 30, and 0.0 at frame 31.
