if I’m honest I think you should get rid of most of the mouse over message’s
Further more I would rename the visitors page to a more informational name as it is the main page of the site youre making.
YOu are building a site for the competition but I don’t think that should be the information your vistors read on your homepage.
but that’s just my humble opinion …
I think for the rest you guys are doing well sofar.
All-> I tried to base the design on that other people created last year, so thats why I have all the info about the comp. on it. The judges will want the info laid out in front of them. Also, the only way for visitors to view it is through the science museum page. Or a really good search engine.
koudejongen-> I like the mouseovers, the page is degigned for ease of use. But, I might give them a delay
valarking-> Yeah, I don’t really like the dot either, but until I have better… I might make a character in Blender. Oftopic, yes I use Delphi, but mainly as a launcher and not for database stuff. I got it free on a PC magazine.
Ok. I tried the time delay thing, and I used the steTimeout() function, so it worked. BUT If you had the mouse over and then took it away before the info appeared, the info appered anyway but after you removed the mouse. HELP!
P.S. I’m going to try to fix the ‘Contact us’ image
by the way, if you want to learn how do web-design/programming, visit www.w3schools.com, they have some nifty tutorials. and for the html, if you really want to kick some ass, then go to cool-looking/complicated websites and download the sourcecode. hey, it works! thats the way i learnt it!
Ohhhhh, we all know how hard it is to think stuff up. %| Half the time I want to stick my FOOT up their ASS because they never stop saying stuff like “Make it prettier”, and “I want it to look more professional”, the tech guys do the actual work. It’s easy to design an AWESOME website, but coding it is the hard work. Speaking of coding, how did you make this? HTML or a WYSIWYG editor?
I’ll give you a few tips I’ve learned over time about web designing. Don’t get fancy menus like that unless your site is equally fancy. They give the “preloaded script” look when you do that. For a good example of a bad menu system see: http://www.microsoft.com
Next, those silly smilies don’t really add anything to the page. Maybe they’d have a better chance of making me laugh if I didn’t have to stare at them while I waited for actual content. I suggest you put them around the website as side images that make the content more fun.
Next, the hardest thing about making a webpage is to give it an expensive, non-hompage feel. Don’t feel bad if you can’t achieve this because I too have trouble with it. Let’s walkthrough this site. The front page. The top image with the binary code. Why is it there? It just says Digital. If you insist on keeping it there, let’s work on it. The transition from it into the background is not strait. It has a “cloudy”, jagged edge. Maybe work on that. Also, the image would be more effective with the letters in front of the zeros.
On to the next image. The one that says Digitopolis and Enter. Same problem with the edges, but now it’s more noticable because the color contrast. If you are going to have a constrasting image like that, I would suggest you keep the edges strait. Also, the picture inside of it with the words enter on it is not recognizable because of too heavy compression. The word Enter is not opaque enough and needs to be a bit bigger to be clearly recognized. I don’t know what the little blue lines around this image’s border are but they’re not pretty. Last, it’s simply compressed too much. Too much detail is lost.
Have I put you to sleep? Oh, sorry.
Tell me if you want me to cover the actual page, it might take a bit longer.
You asked for C&C, and this is my honest opinions.
