Companion cube 2

This is a project I have been working on for about a week, I used the cube asset from an old project, cleaned it up, and am now using cycles for the first time on a project. I am happy with the results although I want to push it just a little farther.

I just have that feeling that its missing something. I did some final compositor to try and bring more color into it since most of the image is a shade of gray.

The setup consists of 2 render layers, one that has everything you see here, and one that has an instance of the sign by its self with an alpha background. I just overlay this over the image at the end to make the shapes on the sign more clear. And at full resolution they are clear.

As far as the composite setup I have going on, I have a few color balance nodes, and a couple of brightness/contrast ones to bring out the light and darks. The goal was to have one side of the cube in the light, and the back side to be darker to show off the illumination of the pink.

In the end though I wanted some input before I put it to rest.
I have attached the render main layer render, and final comp.
Thanks
M

Have you thought about making the gray surfaces on the companion cube into something that resembles a carbon fiber mesh.

I did not think about more advanced textures on the cube. That could look really nice.

Here is the carbon texture. i used a fabric texture from cgtextures, and really used it pretty much as is. When rendered though the composite nodes i have caused some problems, i will need to tone those down obviously.

You got a glossy section on the right face. Try messing around with adding a halo near the pink.

I wanted to get rid of that, but i gave up and op[ted for touching it up later. I will look into the setting you suggested.

I think this might be the end. I still want to play with volumetric lighting when they add it into cycles. Maybe even some dirt on the white parts of the cube. but till they implement volumetric lighting I am content with the way it is now.

comments and crits still welcome.

I changed the amount of samples from 500 to 2000, as well as added a depth of field effect. I wanted it to be more aimed just at the cube (blurring more of the bottom left floor) but i was unable to. i changed the post nodes to reflect the new lighting.
