Where I work, we are using Fusion to composite a 3D character rendered out in Maya. They are using the .exr format. When we bring it into Fusion we have a script that breaks up the exr file to each one if it’s components. In After effects they have something to choose which part of the exr file you want to use.
Is it possible to composite using exr files in Blender?
I did a quick look around the interwebs and I don’t know that I found what I was looking for.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Yes. You can import openEXR into the compositor.
It looks similar to the render layer node.
There are several dropdowns in the node. In one you can set which render layer you want to use in case it has more than one render layer.
If you select a render layer with more than one channel, for example a render layer with the regular image, an alpha channel and perhaps a bunch of crypomattes the channels will become visible as output sockets.
