I have a fairly intense animated project, consisting of five layers, each with about 1600M, lots of verts, etc. Can I render each animated layer separately, into PNG, and then composite them together using Render Layer and Alpha Over nodes in the Compositor as a final project render
Yes.
You can render each layer separately as png sequences, and the composite them together in composite nodes when you’re done.
