During rendering, usually animations, my computer will render a few frames before completely and abruptly shutting off.

ati radeon 5800 series gpu
amd athlon II x4 654 processor
I ran a HeavyLoad test, and it didn’t fail.
Ran a Furmark test: after five minutes the max temp was 92 degrees. (though the person who suggested this thought I was using GPU rendering instead of CPU)
I was monitoring CoreTemp when it shut off during rendering, and the temp was only at 90C which shouldn’t have triggered thermtrip on my CPU.
I ran a Windows Memory Diagnostics, and it came back with no errors.
I’m guessing it’s the PSU, but I wanted some people’s opinions from users of Blender.

I would suggest 32x32… And as for the temperature in my opinion 90 C is way too high…
I am not an expert just saying what I think… Maybe try to use less threads too?
I think AMD processors are made to shut down if they reach 100°. So yea, 92 degrees is pretty hot.
But by using less threads, I think that the other threads are going to be overloaded with more work, no? (Not an expert either, but I think this might happen. If this doesn’t happen, then the render will take more time)
I agree with Atom. Thermal compound is fairly cheap. Try to grab some new and replace what’s on your heat sync now.
Did this myself a couple weeks ago. Clean CPU and heat sync with q-tip and rubbing alcohol then applied new thermal compound. Got an average drop of about 7c when idle and 10C when under full load.
It’s not about thinking and not what others think, especially on reddit, it’s about knowing.
I guess you don’t have an Athlon II x4 654 as there’s no such thing, but an Athlon II x4 645.
And AMD and specifications in the web say the maximum safe operating temperature is 71°C.
90C is way too hot for those processors. I would suggest getting a new Heatsink/CPU fan as soon as possible. At that temp you are lucky the chip hasn’t burned up by now. Those chips shouldn’t be getting over 50 - 60 degrees under normal ambient temps. might want to take the side panel off of the computer and aim a box fan in there to get more airflow until you can get a new Heatsink/CPU fan.
Also, get some canned air and make sure the dust is cleared out of there. you don’t want to blow canned air diretly on the fans though because you can burn them out, i usually use a pencil or something to block the fan blades from spinning around while you are using compressed air so the fans don’t spin around all over the place and like I said, the compressed air can burn out a fan. Also, make sure the computer is off while you do this.
Your other Blenderer friend might of been confusing C with F.
