Intel & Microsoft are working on the next generation of computer and OS
and it appears that the software for this next generation won’t be compatible with old software on the new computer at least that’s what we ear say.
One good thing for the new computer is that it will be based more on the conceot of mini then microcomputer like PC.
The next generation will be hardware protected so no more virus will be able to corrupt the soft exactly like on minicomputer!

Linux had a 3d desktop and transparent windows before windows, look up XGL and AIGLX. Mac had it before both of them. Windows just ripped the ideas from other people. Windows can’t come up with their own ideas any more.

Simple. Everybody wil stop using their products, than why create viruses if there aren’t computers to be infected? People won’t create viruses and the new generation will be virus free
i just got a new machine to do some rendering. Vista preinstalled. I just want to comment on the trusted computing thing, and tell you all how MUCH i JUST LOVE clicking on a control panel icon and being asked if I can be trusted, for each and every thing. And this is when I am signed on a administrator.
I did not give any specific source because these are things we ear around on TV program here and there on what the futur olds in a few years.
but if you go on Intel site and dig a bit you might learn a few thing about the next generation of PC computer - Like speed for processor type of protection ect…
Anyway it’s just an idea a point of discussion
One thing is certain the PC you know today wont be the same tomorrow ( in a few years )
In terms of raw compute power, I second that. I just brought some servers out of storage. Five years old. 512Meg ram max, SCSI raid array…with 20Gig of storage, which was HUGE back then. Pentium MMX 400mhz. cost: $10,000. Yesterday, i bought 1T storage, 2G ram, dual core 2.5Ghz, cost: $1,000.
Now for the kicker: the server had NT. Having not seen it in awhile, it looked just like XP. The new machine, with the Vista, is the same as well. the UI, imho, has not evolved significantly at all in five years. still a 2D mouse, a keyboard, a 2D display. And then another server and some of my desktops still have Win98. A guess what…looks the same to me as NT which looks the same as XP which looks the same as Vista. Prettier colors, but same UI concept.
let me tel you what i remember from the Mid-80’s - not that far away
Common PC’s where using the intel chip the 286 running at around 20 MGZ
the common hardisk at the time where the 10 Megabytes
in special you could have the 20 MBytes for around $600.00
Memory a few Meg only
so yap it is evolving fast - at an exponetial rate
i remember the Mini computer VAX where you had hards disk plater in a free standng cabinet
we had Tape drive costing around $30,000.00 - 300 mm diameter reel
2 meters high and 1 meter wide 1 meter idepth
a 200 or 300 Mbytes hard disk was around $25,000.00
Many of the young people now a day’s have not seen that
they were born with satellites PC’s in GHZ ect…
but all that is only less than 25 years old technologie - think about it
