computer trouble again

Hi there…

My little brothers comp suddenly didn’t want to start the other day. It was like there was no connection to the screen, so I started by trying to put in another graphic card… No luck there, so i tried with other ram and tried disconnecting all that wasn’t necessary to get a signal to the screen… But still no luck…

i then ordered a new motherboard and cpu, cause I couln’t think of any other thing that could be wrong and they have just arrived today… But even with the new hardware the computer won’t send a signal to the screen… And yes i have tried with another screen… I was just wondering if you have any ideas about what could be wrong…?
When we hit the power button the fans starts and you can hear that the hd is starting to, but then nothing… it doesn’t go further… I could really use some advice… my little brother keeps stealing my laptop :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you thought about swapping the Power Supply Unit? Maybe its just past it bests and has crapped out.

That could be the problem… I just assumed that it was working properly when the fans where running… but I wil try with the one from my comp… eventhough I don’t like the idea of taking something out of it

I have tried with 3 different power supplies, and still no luck… I think it’s cursed or something :frowning:

Try putting the parts (one at a time) in another computer until you can find the faulty part.

Sounds like you have tried everything. so assume nothing. Are any pins bent on the connector, do you hear bleeps from the MB. As an alternative, connect the screen to a different computer. Does the MB have a power led (some have an on board led, at least you would know that 5v dc was getting to the board). Also check all the jumpers ect on your new MB, maybe you have 2 different problems. IE: a failed MB and an erroneously configured new MB.

Thanks for your help guys… I figured it out… or I should say my dad who doesn’t know anything about computers figured it out :stuck_out_tongue:

It was the power connector to the cpu fan that was in the wrong position… it was a 3 pin connector that should go in a 4 pin, but I put it in from the wrong side… stupid me… But again thanks to those who tried to help

You can give me all those spare computer parts that you ordered now :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually havent that many parts left… But you can just stop by and pick up my brothers old celeron cpu if you want
