concentric waves

Please excuse me if this is a basic question, but I am pretty new to this.
I wan’t to create concentric waves on a surface.
So far, I have been able to make one wave on a cube with a mesh modifier, but I want to make lots of concentric waves as if I had dropped something into water.
Any advice?
Ron.

wave modifier

Sorry, I didn’t make myself clear.
I said mesh modifier but I should have said wave modifier on the mesh.
I can only get it to make one wave on the surface rather than concentric waves.
Am I missing something obvious in the parameters?

Perhaps you could use multiple wave modifiers and tweak their start time and other settings as wanted?

Make the buttons window taller – so you can see the rest of the options. The default window arrangement hides the options you need – the interface is really broken in this regard.

You should be able to pan the buttons window with the middle mouse if you have to, too

You really get most out of modifiers if you use the vertical panel alignment option and create a special vertical Buttons Window on one of your screens.

If your trying to animate then this wont work, but make a new material, subdivide the plane, add texture of radial gradient, should be able to get cirlces…Then click on mesh options and click on noise a few times.

Just a note about mandodragon’s tip. If you are using CVS or 2.43RC2 version, you can use Displace modifier instead. The nice thing about this solution is that it’s not destructive as using noise is. Also the object offset is quite handy as it allows you to place the ripple texture where you want. It provides scaling and animation possibilities as well.

Thanks much for the quick replies.
I ended up working it out.
Got the wave frequency by adjusting its width and finally realised I had to increase the frames to see the rest of the waves. Doh! Something you guys must take for granted is a revelation to me.

I had tried multiple wave modifiers without success, but it will come in very handy for having multiple objects in the water. (I want to study reflections for a painting and this tool is proving to be great.)

Thanks again.
The support here is brilliant.
