Basic concept of this car is a true 4 seater w/the performance capabilities of a supercar.
Basic specs are <3500lb curb weight, ~700HP high revving N/A VR8, RWD, double wishbone suspension w/active camber control yadda yadda. I am going to make all this componentry as well and have a cutaway (just do away w/body mirror modifiers.
It DEFINITELY needs a lot of work… this is pretty much my first first pass at a car model at all. Some things I’m not happy with just yet include
rear window- needs to be created over from scratch
The doors have been kind of driving me nuts. I can’t get the reflections to line up at all but the contours are pretty effing close.
What I think I will do is delete the front door, and make a new one based on the front edge of the rear door.
Car is going to not have a b-pillar (i.e. Bimmer E31 8 series, etc)
Does anyone know how to get nice round cutouts for wheels? If I make a new circle mesh can I control the # of points around it and connect it to the body?
While in edit mode press SHIFT + A and choose circle. Then press F6 before pressing anything else or clicking. Now you can adjust the number of vertices and integrate the circle into your mesh.
You can also check he Align to View Option to let the circle face your viewport.
What is said above. The usual process is to sketch the design first with pencil, just doodle, be very creative, do not repeat the same design over and over and once you come to a stage of having the design you like, move on to developing it and evolving it in, lets say, Photoshop or any graphic software, basicaly do more detailed renders or sketches. Then you should move to 3D modeling, to realise your ideas
I am pretty happy with it within the context of it being my first model ever. Plus the problems can be fixed, and as I fix them I will learn how to make my next models better.
Wow, your first model. That’s pretty darn good.
I’m curious as to whether edge weights (shift + E …then drag) are commonly used in vehicle modeling, as I am trying to do something in this alley as well.
