Use the snap menu.
I tried but it didn’t work. Could you tell me what setting I should use.
If you are trying to snap to the underlying geometry, you can use face snapping. However you are not clear about what you are trying to do exactly. For instance are you trying to snap vertices, faces, portion of a geometry etc?
I am trying to snap selected vertex to the surface of another object (so they can conform to the surface) You can see it in the video I linked at the minute 18:05, that’s exactly what i’m trying to do but without using the shrinkwrap modifier.
That’s what @kkar has been telling you.
See attached picture, open snap menu and select face snapping. click the magnet icon to toggle snapping or hold ctrl.
Edit: Might look different in version 2.8.
Here is a more detailed explanation: https://artisticrender.com/how-to-use-snapping-tools-in-blender/
But i tried the “Project individual elements” too, and for me it is also not working. Dont know whats missing. If i activate “Project individual elemants” no snapping is done anymore.
thank you for the article!
unfortunately when I do that the vertex won’t stick on the surface but they slide down instead.
Try to restrict the movement to the z-axis.
yes i was doing it but it didn’t work.
does it work for you?
Just tried it and it doesn’t work for me either - same result. Hoping there’s a solution to this - seems like if I move something along the Z, there’s no reason to expect it’s going to slide the way it does based on my camera angle.
I used this function a lot in Modo and hope there’s a non-obtuse way to do it in Blender as well.
Disable project onto itself. Go to top view and gently nudge the selection or just press g inside the top view. It is a view based projection so you need to deal with that to project verts properly.
it works well but the fact that I also need to gently move the cursor around …to be honest it’s a weird way to do that.
Well, this function should be used in min. two views, one for the projection, and the other for the preview and modifing. Try to use this function in only persp. view fails for me.
