Connecter is a local-first DAM solution, meaning it works with your storage and lets you build a centralized library where you can find assets in seconds, as it’s very visual and user-friendly. It’s completely free for single users and has an affordable SaaS with a two-month free trial for teams.
Connecter can be extremely useful as a standalone organizational tool, but it also has a Blender integration, developed since 2019, compatible with all versions after 4.1.x, offering a ton of perks:
- Convenient drag-and-drop interaction that recognizes if you’re dragging an object or material, allowing you to choose whether to link or append it.
- Free asset placement that follows surface normals for easier geometry positioning, whether you’re linking or appending.
- Geometry rotation around the local Z-axis while dragging with the right mouse button.
- “Replace” option for objects and materials while maintaining their position and orientation.
You can also save entire scenes or particular objects and materials from Blender directly to Connecter, with flexible options for render previews:
- Save entire scenes with the “Add Current File” option.
- Save objects and materials as individual or multiple assets.
- Save Collections from Blender’s Outliner.
- Directly export materials from the Outliner with a new “Save Material” option as a single or multiple assets.
You can see all about it in this video.
A few important things to keep in mind. When using the integration to save assets to Connecter, all external files will be saved in the .blend asset for your convenience. Additionally, we recommend saving the scene before exporting assets to Connecter for optimal results.
You can download and install the integration from Blender’s Extensions website, directly from Blender, or from Connecter’s Integrations dropdown.
