Constant freezing/crashing

Been dealing with this issue for a while, though it has suddenly become alot worse so I need to seek advice.

Basically, Blender has been crashing alot on me lately - when moving bones, objects, or even just looking around now, it freezes for a few seconds then just closes. Before it would only happen maybe once every 10 minutes or so, mostly just when moving bones - but now it seems to happen constantly when I do anything to a model or armature. (once every 5-10 times or so it will even crash my whole computer)

I had chalked it up to my elderly GTX 570 and was just bearing it until I can upgrade, but now it is just unusable and I’m hoping there my be some quick fix. (I’m also not 100% sure it is even the GPU, as disabling CUDA rendering makes no difference - and while games crash too, it’s nowhere near as frequent)

So is it likely just a dying GPU, or might there be something else?
And might there be anything I can do about it in the meantime until i can get a new card? (only things I’ve really tried so far are disabling CUDA rendering and switching to Blender Render instead of Cycles, but no luck - also, temperatures and such all seem to be fine)

FYI - Using 2.79b, GTX 570, i7 4770k, 16GB DDR3
