constrained physics?

i know how to use softbodies and i know how to rig and animate a character (still learning the nla/squencer) but how can i merge these into making something like the springs on the skinny red robot’s head?

i tried using goals and assigning a small vertex group at the base to act as this goal…and the rest of the object blobbed around like a softbody but remained in the same angle.

Try using a soft body lattice (use control point weights to keep points in place, in the same way you’d usually use a soft body goal vertex group. Control point weights can be set in the Transformation Properties window in the 3D view with the lattice in edit mode, press N). Make the springs deform with the lattice modifier using a vertex group on the lattice modifier. Parent the lattice to the head bone or something like that.
