Controlling particles using a texture map.

How can I controll particle emission from an object using a texture map?

(e.g. If I wrapped a ball in black and white stripes, how can I have particles emit only from the white stripes?)

you could load your texture as a particle one and map it to density…

I can’t find a way to load a texture to the particle system like the image above. How can this be done?

should be pretty obvious on a recent blender… are you on 2.58?
