I´m new to Blender since about four months (not new to 3D though). Since my first try I have actually done two things for work with it (those images I cant show since they belong to my employer).
My main 3D app is Lightwave but since I feel they have fallen behind in development (particularly in modeling witch is my favorite area) these last years I wanted to try something new and since Blender is free I downloaded it just for fun thinking it would be like earlier versions that I couldn’t understand at all, was I in for a surprise. Now I could understand it, it had buttons that actually made sense. But better then that, it had awesome tools for modeling and “non destructive” modifiers that were stackable. I know those are not new for 2.5 but coming from Lightwave 9.6 I couldn’t understand how I have made it so long without them.
About the image, well its Converse All Stars… I like the design and think they make for good modeling as well as texturing objects. Only the shoelaces were difficult to achieve and thats only because I decided to do them with one continues bezier curve, in retrospect that was really stupid and hard. I tried to do the stitching with textures but didn’t get the result I wanted so they are placed using modifiers and curves.
Those are some pretty fabulously good looking shoes, I can vouch for that as I have a pair of converse.
Texturing is gorgeous and so is the modelling.
Really well done!
Awesome! That reminds me: I need to get a new pair of cons… The DOF around the edges is a bit strong, and the canvas UVs look a teeny-tiny bit stretched near the top (between the two upper eyelets) though that may just be an image-compression issue… Really nice job.
Omar_Ramerez, you are right about the depth of the sole only most of it is actually modeled, I´m not that good at texturing so I tend to model more than necessary.
benu, it looks weird… didn’t notice that until you pointed it out. I fixed some stretching above without noticing that I created some new issues elsewhere.
