Convert Avi to an area 1 DVD

I know someone here can give me a quick link or explanation

I need to burn an avi onto a DVD in DVD format so in will play on US DVD players (ie a very standard dvd player that wont even play vcds)

Where do I start (I don’t need any menus or anything, if it just plays, that’s fine)

Try this program, it’s open source and works quite nice http://www.dvdstyler.de/index.html

thanks ondrew, checking it out right now…

nice authoring program, but it doesn’t convert avi files… have to find a free converter utility… I would’ve thought you could do whatever elephants dream team did, but the way I understand it, joeri used commercial software for the dvd authoring… hmm, anyone know of a handy little conversion utility?

Hm, I thought DVDstyler supported conversion.

You can use mencoder, which is my favourite, but a little complicated to setup

Or you can try some of these tutorials

Use zone 0 --or no zone. Since there is no point forcing to zone 1 and I think you will find that that is the default anyway. I use mencoder, very nice and you don’t need gigabytes of temp storage.

Google search dvd flick.
