converting my 3d model in a flattened 2d net?

I have tried googling for this, but can’t seem to find anything. I’d like to produce a flattened 2d net of my 3d model, for use in an external image editing app to create a texture map, is this possible?

You need to search for UV unwrapping

there is an embedded script to do this!

let us know if you find it in 2.49
but probably not yet in 2.5
