Converting Normal Maps to Depth Maps

Are there any programs that can actually do this? Blender’s normal map system is incomplete (had anybody actually read my “UV Winding Order” thread, they would know that), and the only thing that I can rely on in blender is bump/displacement/depth maps.

Nvidia has photoshop plugins for this, but they only work on Windows (and with my using blender, it could be viewed that I don’t have the money to buy photoshop).

Blender Artists don’t generally have to write their own shaders, so most of the people who hang out here haven’t a clue what you’re talking about. Posting to the Python and Plugins forum, or perhaps the Other Software forum might give better results.
