Converting video?

Is there a way to convert video file formats to something blender can read?

For instance .mov to .avi or something? Could I load it into Pinnacle Studio or some similar program and resave it as a file Blender will read?

Provided you have Quicktime or (QT Alternative) installed: the RAD Video Tools.

virtualdub works great for this and free to.

tried it…doesn’t work on quicktime files.

I’m able to convert some .mov’s to .avi with TMPGEnc, 'cept those with crypted audio (tho the video part seems to come thru okay.)

I just tried this.
can you load a .mov file in the sequence editor in blender? I can. then I just render it ( do sequence in the render buttons ) but first set the codec to what you want to save it as .avi or an image sequence etc… This works fine for me.

Good tip, but one (minor) caveat is that blender doesn’t support the correct NTSC framerate of 29.97fps - only 30fps, which some editors balk at. Not a big thing, but can be frustrating (and easily fixed with a re-encode thru Virtualdub, assuming proper steps are taken to avoid further quality loss.) I’ve also struggled with audio in blender’s sequencer - but only 'cause I’ve not taken the time to search-n-learn on the topic yet…
