Cooling off

This came into existence partly because of the heatwave and my longing to be somewere exotic, partly to try out some new techniques.

All objects were modelled from scratch apart from the trees. I used the cloth tools to model the inflatable ring.

All images were rendered in Cycles with a basic sky texture and then some post-processing, mainly for a slightly stylized look.

…and yes, there is some fakery involved with the caustics on the base of the pool.

I bet it was hard to model the wrinkles on the seam of the floating toy. How did you do that?

Using the pressure option on the cloth modifier allows you to inflate the main shape. For the edging I extruded out a ring of vertices and then ran the cloth sim. Once I was happy I then tidied up the vertices around the edge manually, as there were some overlapping.

Add a solidify modifier and job done. For close-ups it would need some more detail but for this purpose it was fine.
