It’s quite hard to find a good-quality version of the image this animation will be based on…
I remember seeing this everywhere as a child, but not many people I talk to have seen it.
So - I feel like re-creating it as a Blender animation…
After all, the pro-cooperation fits in with the whole open source ethos.
…with monkeys!
This is a monkey rig of my creation, available on blendswap.com in the “rigged” section.
I may have to alter the rig to allow for eye-bulges & blinks, and the mouth is rigged for dialogue right now.
The cartoon will have some goofy character animation to bring the fable to life.
At the moment I’m working alone, despite the theme of the animation, though I plan to use this painting by a friend as a floor, the three circles accommodating where the monkeys start, and the two piles of bananas.
Carlos Barcode is also responsible for the paintings the monkey was based on.
Also thinking of using Jonathan Williamson’s Extendible Chain. The chain between the monkeys is causing me the most problems right now - I think it should be rigged rather than physics-simulated, and may be a bit stretchy, but if anyone has any advice on this…
The original cartoon will be displayed at the end- along with the name “cooperation is better than conflict” at the end. Then credits.
Another thing - this project isn’t going to move at great speed.
