Copy just the mesh from a rigged character without the armature or controls

I’m using a human rig to get lots of reference poses for a painting. I want to copy the mesh from the posed rig and paste it into a scene without the armature and controls. I’m coming from Maya which has a delete history and break connection feature on objects.

Is there a quick way to break the armature’s contention to the mesh and preserve the mesh’s position?

Armature is just a modifier: you can remove or apply it like any other in the modifier stack.
Also, the mesh is normally parented to the armature, so you might need to un-parent (with “Alt + P”).
