copying

Is there any way that I can copy an object from one .blend file to another?

In the blend file you want to import into press shift-F1. Navigate to the blend you want to import, and go to the objects. Press on the object you want to import, and it will be inserted.

Edit: There is also File->Append which is the same command.

Also be aware that it will be appended to your file on the same ‘layer’ that the original object is on, which might not be the same as you’re on.
I am new to blender and I was caught out by this.
