The beginning of another tedious thread. Bye.

then dont use them :stuck_out_tongue:

Wikipedia is your friend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain

Public domain works are not protected by copyright. If they really are in the public domain, you can use the freely in any way you would like.

Short answer: Better try to make your own content allways, or use things from someone you know. Using work from people you dont know anything about is kinda awnkward, and sometimes the images are property of someone, but nothing is telling you that.
So i encare you to start learning about creating textures, or find a mate who specializes in that. Not only it will be safer, legally, but is also funnier and your work will be 100% original~
Oooookay, it wasnt that short answer anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

Be aware of ‘orphaned work’. PD is work where the creator been dead for more than 70 years - unlikely for CG stuff, the creator have given it away PD or some other specific cases. If the creator is just not known it is not PD - Then it is orphaned work and in practice unusable. The term PD is sometimes used a bit wrong so if You cant tell the origin of the work don’t use it.

There is some political work trying to make orphaned work PD if You first make a reasonably try to find a copyright holder but I know of no success so far (at least not in eu).

Use anything you want, unless you want to sell your game.

google images is not public domain.

there are websites like CGtextures.com that you can download the texture and use as you want for free, then you can sell or do warever you want with your game.
You can look for images on flikr and there you can find images that are under GPL license aswell and you can use them the same way you can use blender. Just use the filter to find those( there are severl high quality images there).
So try those spots, I use a lot of condnt that I download from the internet and I sell those and I never had problems

Sorry but you have to be careful with that. Open Source projects are not allowed.

From CG Textures Website:
It is NOT permitted to:

  • Release the Textures or derivative products under Open Source Licences

I really recommend making your own textures.

You are way more likely to be busted for being an hysteric than any actual theft of pixel rgba.

a very dangerous statement.

Ethan n. just give me your car, I promise I will not sell it!

If you use other resources, you should always be able to:

  • tell where you got it from (e.g. a link, a company, a name)
  • show the permission to use it the way you do (e.g. download the licence)

I use textures from free sites but they seem to have certain conditions of where you may use them. Leonnn, I would never sell anything i made no matter good it comes out unless I could can rid of that annoying exe icon. i know there is a sticky but those suggestions don’t work. Anyone else had luck changing the blender icon?

I meant use any textures you want, unless you are wanting to sell your game.

Should be: Unless You want to distribute your game, even to close friends…

I use use the textures from CGtextures all the time.I really doubt that somebody ll came after me because of that.
I sell my projects with those textures on it, so, if you dont use a program under GPL license you can just use them, but I doubt that somone ll care about the small projects usually made with blender, I think that we ll have no problems with that even underGPL.
I think the point of this thread is make a game to sell, so you can use those textures from CGtextures, I saw a lot of games with textures from there.
I put my games on burster aniway, that programs have other license since I encrypt my file, for me no problem at all, that way you can selll your games without care about the terrible license of blender, best 33 bucks I spend!
