Cosy Shack

Story
This project was inspired by Stray (Midtown) and part of an older project I’d made a couple of years ago. It’s a random little shack made by some unknown character, who dabbles in painting, pottery, watches old movies from the 80s & 90s and generally likes being off the grid.

When making a little scene like this, I try to imagine what it would be like to make and use the space. What would I want around me and how would I interact with the space? What would make it looked lived in and humanised etc.

General
This is a print for my house, so I wanted to add plenty of detail. I’ve brought together a load of props I’d made for other projects. There are a few new ones just for this project too.

I also used Procreate and Nomad to help with creating the pots and adding painting, textures and doodles everywhere. It was a fun process that’ll I’ll be doing more of in future.

Let’s look around
This is a short showcase animation I put together to highlight parts of the mesh and a couple of key props and textures within the project. This was always intended to be a high resolution print, so rendering an animation was out of the question. Instead, I decided to put a little sequence together to pick out some details and add a bit of movement.

This is the first time I’d used Nomad on the iPad (for the ceramic pots) and Procreate for a bunch of doodles and textures.

Music
I wanted to make some music that was also inspired by Stray, but ended up just making something completely different. I can never really plan when making music and what happens just kinda happens.

I also added bleeps and bloops for the UI.

Thanks for watching :grinning:

I thought I’d throw one of my pots (not in the traditional sense) on the MechaTurntable for good measure.

The pot was made in Nomad and painted in Procreate while I was on the train to work one morning.

WOW. Its so good. Really nailed that theme and the overlays presented it in a unique way. Did you use After Effects is it all in Blender? Because. That would be worth a class. I would buy that class.

Thank you so much for the kind words. The animation was indeed made in After Effects. I’m not sure I’d be able to make this as easily in Blender. I’m sure it’s possible…and with better teachers out there than me

There are so many details to take in here! Great work!

Thank you! I really aimed for density and wanted plenty of things to look at and find (like the Lego mini figure; that’s a tricky one to spot). It’s an A2 print, so there was capacity to have big and small details scattered around
