Cottages by the Water's Edge

A 19th-century pastoral landscape study in Blender.
I always loved historic traditional paintings. While searching through my references, I got inspired to make something like a 19th-century painting (I will also try some oil paint effects in photoshop but I don’t think I’ll be sharing those).
Reused and tweaked my water shader that I made for my previous render. I think I could’ve made the ripples less strong and make the canal a bit more calm.
Houses and such are textured in Blender. I figured I’d like to step away from Substance Painter and UVs.
Ivys made in SpeedTree.
Rendered in Blender with Cycles. Post-processing done in Photoshop.
A quiet corner of the countryside, untouched by haste.
Thanks for reading.

They all look convincing, but the black and white one in particular looks incredibly “real”.

We can have our bags packed and be there within a week. :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

That’s a place I’d like to live at.

Beautiful!

Thanks a lot!

I love this so much! the composition is great and the colors and water reflection look so good, almost painterly like it´s so beautiful it´s not real. Love the progress shots too, what did you use to generate that? I like the strenght on the water material, I think it´s such a large area of the image it brings interest to the center by giving it texture. I found this tutorial on youtube about large bodies of water, it talks about different wave lenghts and surface variations I will leave it here in case you are courious about tweaking your water but I think it looks really good just as you left it.

Amazing work! Thanks for sharing!

PS: sorry about the youtube image I don´t want to make this distracting but I don´t know how to avoid the post converting the link to the preview image.

Thanks for the kind words.
Progress video was just my test/progress renders compiled to a video with a video editor software.
I gave the video you linked a quick watch and seems like I already have whatever he’s showing in the video.

Really looks like a painting by one of the old Dutch masters. The colors and lighting is very nice. Good choice of composition, too!

The progress video is a neat idea - I’d never thought of compiling a video out of my many progress renders, that’s something I need to remember for next time I post something.
