counter-strike movie soundtracks

Hi everyone,

Lately I’ve been dowloading a lot of these so called “frag movies” that shows particular clans and players getting good frags.

I noticed a lot of these movies have popular soundtracks like those from the matrix and other blockbuster movies and this got me thinking.

If someone can make a counter-strike frag movie using popular music, why cant we do the same with our Blender animations.

If they needed permision to use this music it doesn’t seem thay had a hard time getting it and these movies can be downloaded legally from a large number of gaming sites.

I know a lot of cs clans out there have a lot of sponsorships and money to throw into these movies, but there also a lot of average players that make their own movies with familiar soundtracks that are available to download from official gaming sites.

The only thing I can think of that might justify this is advertising. A lot of gaming sites have a great deal of advertising but not usually anything relating to music.

Then SONY sprung to mind. They produce not only music, but a great deal of great hardware. The only question is, would sony agree to letting blender artists use sony music in their animations in exchange for advertising their hardware either in the animation itself or on the website from where the blender movies would be downloaded from /or maybe both.

There would of course have to be some distribution restrictions like only being legally allowed to download the blender movies from the SONY sponsored website but I don’t think the Blender community would mind so much. It would be nice to have a large collection of Blender movies all from the same website.

Also, please bare in mind that SONY is merely an example. I’m sure that there are other companies out there that produce both music and hardware.

I know that I’m pretty much shooing in the dark with these ideas/suggestions but I would be interested to know what the rest of the Blender community thinks.

I also have a few questions regarding the blender movie “Mindfields” if you remember it. When I first downloaded it, I think it was from the official Blender site, the movie contained a high-quality soundtrack (Hans Zimmer by the sounds of it). Anyway, when I purchased the “Blender 2.3 Guide” I noticed the same movie was on the CD that came with it…but the soundrack had been removed.

I’m aware that this was due to some copyright restrictions but why is the soundtrack allowed on the downloadable version and not the one that came with the Blender guide. Perhaps someone can clear that up for me because I’m still rather curious.

Because most people don’t mind if you’re using their copyrighted stuff for cool fun internet projects like that, even though it’s technically illegal, they won’t do anything even if they know about it, which often they don’t, so it’s not a big deal generally. But if you try to make money off it, they will get mad, and for good reason, which is why it’s not on that CD.

As far as a copyright violation goes, I don’t think that happens until you’re making money off of someone else’s property. Generally it’s the people mass marketing (or mass “sharing”) that get in trouble for using copyrighted material. Also, I’m not sure if “copyrighted” is a word or if it’s spelled correctly.

So if I use top movie soundtracks in my Blender animations, I won’t get in trouble?

I find it a little hard to believe.

I think it’s important to remember that it was the music companies that wanted to ban music from radio. I’m not sure they would appreciate me using their music in my animations and I think it would only be a matter of time before they would take action to prevent me from doing so.

Are the music firms really that soft?

I haven’t heard of anyone ever getting in trouble for using copyrighted music in a free movie on the internet. Again, it’s technically illegal, but the chances of them finding out about it are very small, and the chances of them caring even if they do find out are very small, as long as you didn’t pirate the music in the first place, and as long as you aren’t making any money off of it.
