Dirt or asphalt: use a image texture. You can also do it procedurally… but you’re just as well with a UV-mapped image texture.

Grass: RipSting’s Fiber script is the popular one for this. You can also use particles to make grass. Search for tutorials and you’ll probably find one you like.

Hair: You’ll have to wait till 2.41 for the real hair stuff… Until then, it depends: the best of the best is NateTG’s tutorial (see the first post at the top of page 5 for a link to the tutorial that still has images attached).
You can also use RipSting’s Fiber if you’re willing to put up with really high polycounts. Landis’s The Beast is an old script also useful for short pretty-boy hair (uses the ‘card’ technique).

Hmm… Alex_G has already finished answering, so…

Hope this helps.

What tutorials would you people reccomend to get really good at blender?

(Alex_G) #13

if you want to get really good at blender, you need to be able to do tutorials that aren’t specific for Blender, try some 3d Studio max, Maya or any other professional 3d software tutorials.

try some from here:
