COURAGE, scene and maybe animation.

Okay I have to make a art project for langauge by next monday.
I have the basic landscape and some soldiers.
At some point and if it is possible I would like to turn it into an animation.

right now I have 3 questions.
how would I make an animation of my soldiers shooting at the enemy.

how would I make fog to cover up the other areas.

Last how would I make my text fade away? and another set of text take its place.

  1. You can rig them have some fun with the IPO.
Pretty difficult so you better start now.

2.There’s an option to have fog in the world settings.
You can change depth and stuff, don’t know if you can animate it though.
It looks better if you use particles.

  1. Internal sequencer.
Haven’t worked with it yet but in any other sequence app you put both text objects on a different timeline.
Set the first text first and after a few keyframes you can fade it out.
When it’s fading you can have your text fade in or wait until the other text is gone.
The simplest of all animation effects really.

thanks will try.
by the way the human models and the weapons were from the repository.
I did not make those.
I just really placed them and set them up on my landscape.

I tried fog but it just covers everything.

Good work, but I have some crits.
Well, first thing… no offence, but your ground does not look very realistic at all. It looks like you made a grid, and put some random bumps in with Proportional Vertex Fallout. Instead, I would suggest using a texture to displace the ground - have a look at this tutorial…
http://www.linuxgraphic.org/section3d/blender/pages/didacticiels/paysages/index-ang.html
However, you probably don’t want to use a standard landscape. Try some custom brushes in the Gimp (if you use the gimp), and experiment. You could also use a standard Blender procedural cloud texture to displace the landscape, then use proportional vertex fallout as you did to add craters from shells.
Secondly, your trench. I presume it is similar to those of World War 1, so have a look at World War 1 trench structure on the web. Here are some examples:
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWtrenchsystem.JPG
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWparaP2.jpg
Try to include the details of the second image - duck-boards, fire step, parapet/parados, etc. Make sure the trenches are at least ankle deep in mud at the bottom. Also, give the trenches a zig-zag structure, which would be a more realistic structure - it slows enemy advance down the trench. Include bunkers and dugouts if you want.
Apart from that, the poses of the soldiers needs a little work - there is a very long line of them in the same pose at the moment. That should be changed.
If you’re going to get it done by Monday, BTW, I would not advise you to try an animation. Just get some really good still images.
Apart from that, good work, and good luck!

thanks I will work on it.

would it be that hard to just make them all fire in the same direction. if so can someone point me out to a tutorial or somewhere where I can learn how to do this.

I don’t know about mud. I dont know how well my computer could handle it.

I know the people are in a very strait line. I will move them and make them better placed.

Also how would I make the camera move around in the animation.

this is the front of the trenched area that has taken the most damage.

edit

I will just do screenshots and maybe even the mud to the knees and everything.

update which one should I use for the landscape?

While your first image in the last post was a bit too dark, the second one looks like it is coming along well. However, there appear to be normals problems - try recalculating normals and applying subsurfacing to make it a smoother shape. This may mean extra edgeloops have to be added to control the subsurfacing.
By mud, I meant an extra layer at the bottom of the trench with a mud texture - not fluid simulated mud or anything like that (although it would be cool).
What would look good would be a combination of both - ie, the trenches in the second picture, and the ground in front of them from the first.
Also, I did not mean your craters were bad - I meant the flat ground around the craters was bad.
Good work, anyway.

I am sorry for not making up my mind but I am going for a brothers in arms like scene. so instead of trenches I am going to make a roadside I will have updates later today. I will probly make a trench scene some other time with the two combined.

I will also have rain and rifles going off.

anyone know where I can get a good sound clip of a rifle going off.

I would also need thunderstorm sounds.

edit here it is.

if I had gun animations and sounds would I have to use the engine to do the scene?

heres an update how do I give the particles color?

also what would be best to do for the background?

Right now it looks like a piece of land floating in the sky.

All crits welcome

currently around half a million verts!!!

Hey man,

If you really want to set up a whole landscape, i suggest using a sky sphere and having the mesh of the land go right to the edge and have hills bumped up there to hide the intersection where the camera will see.
This will help you achive a better set to animate your characters on.

Matt

Blend on, and blend well!!!

I am finally done what do you think.

Well, IMO it needs a little more work before completion. The road and field ends, just the edge of the ground plane, somewhat ruining the effect. I would advise you to have some sort of wall or pile of rubble to hide the edge, with the occasional rooftop visible over it to provide the illusion of being in a coherent world. If you wanted to, you could model more ground around it as well, although I am guessing you don’t by what you have so far.
Secondly, the tank might look better set solid in some areas, and it could perhaps have a bit more material work?
Finally, I am not too keen on the music - at least, the voice at the beginning. I would prefer instrumental music, but music is your choice.
Well done anyway, and it is looking good - I like the ‘old film’ effect of the renderings.

thank you.

I had to have it in on the 15th so I kind of rushed it.

the music from the song civil war by gunz and roses.
