The reason I signed up was because I could find no answer to why blender (v2.42a) fails to start-up on my system. I have a P4 processor, and ATI x600 mobility card with Omega Catalyst 38.330 drivers installed (since ATI dont offer normal Catalyst drivers for my system). I assume the Open GL files in the drivers are ok, but was confused how to check. I’ve tried running it on 16 bit and 32, no luck with either.
I tried Blender 2.25, which worked fine (despite being slow as anything), and wanted to use the newer version if any.
I dont understand why 2.25 works when 2.42a doesn’t.
The program open the DOS style window, says it’s looking for Python (I have v2.4), says it’s got it(!), while opening the Blender window (which is grey and blank) then crashes.
I have a “Python warning” problem too, everytime I open Blender a warning window is opening. I think the reason is that we have not setup Python. I have downloaded Python’s latest version and double clicked setup but I still see the same warning window. I dont know what to do? Orix, do you mean that warning window as a crash or do you have bigger problem? Is Blender window opening with that warning window? I dont know what the usage of Python is exactly, but I think that window is not a real problem because it does not change functionality so much but it is really annoying. Maybe we can find an answer in Python forum.
@Orix : Thankfully I haven’t had a system with an ATI graphics card on it but apparently a lot of people have issues with it . Maybe this will help but if this doesn’t just use the search function on the forum if no one more knowledgeable then myself doesn’t answer you .
@ tt365 : the command line window (your “Python warning”) that pops up is not a warning . It is the normal start up for Blender . It is a part of the program . In fact you can input commands into it to for example render .
Today I have learned that Python is a really important thing. I was creating in blender but I had no idea for Python. I think all we do with mouse and keyboard in blender, has a meaning in Python (like DOS). I have read Python forum and and I have understood that I had to download Python 2.4. My fault was downloading Python’s latest version. Now everything is OK for me but I have to learn how to input commands. TY
Hey Vertex, thanks for trying to help. I’ve tried the solution you posted before without sucess, but tried it again for benefit of the doubt. Still no luck unfortunately. Slowdown isn’t the problem really, the program just doesn’t want to start it seems! Wierd thing is that a person in that thread also uses catalyst drivers and has no problem.
tt365, we have a completely different problem I think. I have Python 2.4 already installed. The program gives no error message about Python either, it recognises that I have it, then crashes soon afterwards.
I’ve tried searching the forums for a bit, considering there are so many problems like this, the amount I looked at didn’t have the same problem as me.
i think that blenders render doesnt actually use the VGA , but uses the processor:confused: .and your problem has nothing to do with your pc preformance
well the easy way to solve this problem is to try blender 4.23…well if cant download 4.3 then reinstall 4.2 may this is kinda bug coz i used to use linux too but it worked with me…
I couldn’t find the default B.blend file, I have no idea why, I had hidden files shown and whatnot… perhaps I’ve installed the program wrong? Although I dont see how since I used the installer. Any ideas?
I tired the latest build of blender RC3 2.43 Beta, same problem. I’ve tried reinstalling 2.42a loads of times. (Unless there really is a version 4.23/4.3/4.2 I’ll assume those were mistakes Ge-Force :s)
