Create a customised UV Layout

The above image is a normal unwrap of a cube

I would like to get the unwrap of the cube like this. This is just an example. I need to get the UV layout of any mesh only with the borders. I need to avoid the inner mesh lines. Some of the mesh that i am currently working is curved, so merging of faces, doesn’t work. Kindly please suggest a method to get the above result.

Standard cube t unwrap-> pinning->rewrap

Can’t say that I get what you’re trying to do…
But the whole point of UV mapping is to create texture coordinates for the entire mesh. Therefore every mesh polygon has a corresponding UV face.

If you want to get rid of the “interior” lines, I can only see exporting the UV layout to a graphics software of your choice and deleting those lines manually. Regardless, I still fail to see what that would be useful for.

I am designing a 3D model for my friend, who replicates it into real world models. So if i am able to generate UV Layout, with only outer border, he can create real world models, much easier and i would like to avoid the use of an external software.

Pinning, keeps the UV layout from changing position, is what i know. So could you please explain, how i would remove internal lines of any mesh, in UV layout.

Does this help?

This is vey interesting, and i am getting closer to what i need. But, my friend is cutting the unwrapped image of model using a laser machine, for which he requires only the outer border of the unwrapped pieces. So could you please let me know how to get unwrap to display only the border.

As I said, AFAIK this will not be possible within Blender, as it somewhat contradicts the point of UV unwrapping.

Export the UV layout as a SVG file and edit that in a vector image software of your liking.

search for CNC script
these are using the export STL made of tri’s
and by using other soft they can make the patterns needed for the CNC machine

UV’s are not made to make only outside borders!
