Create a Realistic City

After my last Skyscraper Tutorial, I decided to make a follow-up tutorial on how to make an entire city. And you won’t believe how easy it is.

Tutorial

Sorry to say, but it isn’t that realistic. Use SCE instead.

Did you even SEE the tutorial???

EDIT: Computer lagged, ended up triple posting = = Sorry

I don’t think he did, and neither did I. Because the picture which indicated the result of the tutorial, does not look realistic at all. Sorry man, just looked like glowing planes with glare and blur.

EDIT: Ohhh, didn’t realize that it was because the guy said use SCE, but you used it.
But still, it doesn’t seem to look realistic. Thanks for sharing though, must had took some time to make the tutorial.

He’s using SCE.

There are more realistic versions of that render too, you know. I just posted the first.

I think that looks realistic enough for noob and new to blender people. and please could anyone tell me if the script is also for v. 4.57b

@siddhanth
yup, this one work with Blender 2.49b
The programmer of The City Engine is now developing it for the Blender 2.6x versions.

EDIT:
But the tut uses 2.49b to model and then export it to 2.59 for further editing, which mean you’ll need both versions of blender to do this.

Thanks! Even if the end result isn’t that realistic this tutorial gives tips that can be applied to create the foundation of more realistic results

I needed a city! Thank you! XD

We don’t need to see the actual tutorial to know that what you claim to be a render of a realistic city isn’t very realistic.

Thanks! Nice little tutorial!

How does SCE work? is it a python script? or C++ plugin?

SCE

Looks awesome!

Respectfully, I think some people have taken the term ‘realistic’ too far. :eyebrowlift2:

As far as I’m concerned his title was worthy of stating to encourage interested parties to view all. Indeed, IMHO, the night shots look pretty damn close to a real city panorama view, and I know we now border on the subjective realm here. Taking into account a quickish methodology to generate a view of a city at night, his tutorial provides enough to generate a pretty realistic image(s), and certainly provides the grounding for those who want to put in more tweeking (compositing) , IMHO, to get the last approx. 5-10% right. Right being very realistic!

I certainly want to thank our generous friend OL77 for his many tutorials, they have advanced my knowledge of Blender and indeed cycles - enormously. This being one tutorial of many such diverse types - worthy of viewing.

OL77 - Please keep them coming! Especially, my favourite topic - if you have time. more on creating the splash wave (Blender-carrot build) simulation tuts!!!

This tutorial is awesome but don’t look like a realistic city. Anyways thanks for the nice reviews.

I saw this and was like I should create a city scape. I created mine in 2.59 without the generater. I gave it depth of field, glare, chromatic aberration, and color correction.
Not quite done but I have already spent a bit of time on it so here it is.
