"Create a simple keyframe animation" HOW?

I have looked at the entirety of the manual on ipo curves and the bsod doc. There seems to be a presumption that we should know how to create a “simple key frame animation”, but I swear I can’t find the documentation on how to actually do that. I’ve read all about editing IPO curves, armatures, posing with bones etc. etc. etc. (Most of which has to do with character animation, which is not what I’m trying to do.)
But I have yet to see the instructions on how to simply create a “simple keyframe animation” and move an object from point A to point B.
What part of the book am I failing to find?

Well just start by selecting an object lets say the default cube and make sure you are in frame 1 and then hit the hot key “I” . A pop up menu will ask if you want to “insert key” . Just select Loc (for location) for now . Then hit the up arrow key to go to frame 11 (the up and down arrows move your frame by 10 frames the left-right arrows by 1 backwards and forwards)
Move the cube anywhere you want . Then hit “I” again and select “Loc” again . Go back to frame 1 . Ta da ! you have created your first 11 frame animation . You can hit alt-A to see the animation but since it is so short best to use the left-right arrow keys instead .

Good question, actually. This gets overlooked a lot.

Watch the “Keyframes and Ipos” video tutorial here and you’ll be off running.

That page is gold, by the way. There are many other excellent vid tuts to get you started.

Thanks, fellas. Sometimes it’s the small things that get you.
