My colleague Martin Piala, also created a Blender plugin that makes the rendering of the necessary assets quick and simple.
How it works:
-The add-on creates a camera with a variable number of key frames. This camera travels around a sphere, pointing towards the center of interest in the center of the sphere.
-This enables the rendering of a 3D ‘turnaround’.
-The tool enables easy adjustment of camera key frames as well as the radius of the sphere and the center of interest.
Once the frame sequence has been rendered, you can submit them via our portal to convert them to a 3D photo that can be embedded anywhere you like.
I’d love to hear any feedback if you use the tool!
The Google model viewer is great but there’s a number of reasons why you might not want to use something like that:
A model displayed online is always a simplification of the results you would get when using ray trace rendering. The lighting is faked to a large extent because of browser limitations and the result is generally… basic… When using pre renders you can show what the materials should actually look like.
Displaying a model online, particularly if you want it to look somewhat decent, will be heavy and slow. We built this viewer for ecommerce where loading a heavy 3D model on a product page and leaving the user waiting, will at best negate the benefit of having 3D in the first place. With the All Axis web viewer the result is instantly interactive.
I’m in no way implying it’s better than ‘having the 3D model itself’- it just depends what you need. Horses for courses.
