Creating a cube, adding images as faces, sharing with non-Blender world

Hi everybody -

I just discovered Blender after asking around for advice as to how I could create some basic 3D models. Neat program and community. Thanks in advance for your help.

I would like to create 3D objects, typically (but not always) cubes, map images (created in another app) to the faces of the objects, and save the objects in a way that allows other people (who don’t have Blender) to view them.

The real objects themselves I want to represent are typically anywhere from 1" to 4" cubed; it would be great to know how to set measurements/dimensions in Blender, but so long as it’s roughly proportional, accuracy isn’t essential.

If someone could post step-by-step here, that’d be great, but understanding and expecting that might not be practical, I’m just looking for the best place to find tutorials for the specific needs here.

Thanks again for your time!

Hey! Welcome to the Club! It’s a very nice club, a world-wide club, verrrry clubby. Ya didnt say where you were from when you registered, so dunno what language you speak or if I can buy you a beer, but, this

should get you started. All that you indicated you want to do is very easy in Blender, once you have the basics down. Do the Intro section, and then check out Image Textures and Render using the JPEG and QuickTime formats. Almost anyone can see JPEG images for stills, and quicktime movies.

Measurements are arbitrary in blender. One unit equals one meter works well, but could just as easily be one unit equals one milimeter or one kilometer.

Two scripts to help with measurements:
