creating animated gifs with transparency

I created a sequence of PNG’s with with RGBA selected, but the alpha transparency did not compute to other programs…I had to make a transparent color in every instance using Paint shop. Only then could I make the background invisible. Am I missing some button I should have pushed in blender?
Thanks.

in the render settings, change alpha"sky" to alpha"straight alpha",

also GIF does not handle Alpha transparancy,

it’s either on or off, the only animated web format currently that handles it are H.264 through html 5 wizzardry, and APNG (animate png’s) which only work in Firefox.

Oh and eeh, animated PNG’s cannot be made with gimp. A standalone program works better, personally I use http://animatedpng.com/

Have fun!

Also: how are you making your shadows?
I’m using a “shadow plane” under my stuff to get a nice semi-transparant shadow, so my house sprites will cast shadows on my terrain_tile sprites.

I wouldnt use Gimp for these animation.

I use Paint Shop Animation shop…which I bought way back when…

here is a fire animation I made using a basic tutorial…Let me know if you can see it…thanks.

I can see fire on a blueish background.

how can you do that?

Yeah, its the background that I would like to be transparent. I can do it frame by frame in PSP, but I would like to create a batch of pngs where the pallette transparency is already set. I will also have to check out that animated png program.
Lawrence, not sure what you mean - make the fire animation? or embed it in the post?
