Creating Maps

Hello, My name is Bruce and I’m not only new to Blender but also 3d programs in general. I actually downloaded this program for one simple reason; to create fantasy maps, maps of islands, continents, cities, etc. I have used programs like Corel draw and Adobe illustrator in the past but those programs are way to expensive and memory intensive for my old outdated laptop. I was looking for a simple program that had the “mesh” tool ability. I’ve tried GIMP and was referred to Blender by a helpful user there. So my question is: How do I imitate a mesh tool in Blender and create 2d (somewhat 3d) maps? Thank you.

Bruce

I found a program that works for what you want, and you can import all that data into Blender. This program is called L3DT, and it produces realistic terrains, meaning not only meshes that can be imported, but also materials and textures. I actually made a tutorial on how to use this software a few years back. If you’d like to see how this works, I have it at this website: http://shembol.blogspot.com/2010/04/blender-tutorial-creating-fantasy-world.html?m=1. I hope this information is useful to you. Enjoy!
