Hello all I want to create a model of this African sword. https://swordis.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Cimpada.jpg it has decorative cut-outs in the blade.
For a game assets would you advise creating them in the model or using a texture with a transparency?
Thanks
It may depend on your specific game–but because this will be near the camera if it’s used as a weapon, and those seem to be fairly clean geometric cutout shapes, I’d definitely go with modeling. Transparent textures have their own cost of overdrawing–basically having to re-render the same pixel wherever you’re seeing through one shader to another–so unless it’s something very high detail, like frayed cloth or serrated edged leaves, modeling is surprisingly often the less resource intensive option.
I can do the work. for example I have done complex props as you can see the image. I guess I could do the work.
Thank you, I’ll go with that then.
It looks very nice. But I think you misunderstood my question. I mean to do it myself.
