I’ve been working on this project for a while in blender, there’s so much I would want to do and I’ve learned a lot, but I think its time to wrap it up, I’m looking for some critique on:
Materials: Do they work? Are they “off”?
Lighting: I’ve gotten mixed reactions as to how dark it is, how do I make this scene seem dark without sacrificing its feel?
Environment: Is the fence enough for a sense of scale? Is there enough fluff to make it immersive?
Warning: The animation involves spinning, and made someone a little nauseous.
Included is: (Image: composited, raw, reference, clip: YouTube, 3D model: [Sketchfab]
Hi, I am relatively new to Blender so I am going to skip the material question, but I am happy to throw my 2 cents in for the lighting and overall experience of the video.
The lighting feels too dark for me since I have little context for the image, it is hard to tell what it is and why it might be creepy. The camera spinning didn’t bother me, but the jerks at certain points (:07, :29, 1:10, etc.) seemed odd and as a viewer I am unsure why they were there. Are we in a helicopter flying around it? Perhaps a flickering light popping at intervals showing some broken pieces or some sparks would add a sense of danger, but those are just an off the cuff thoughts.
As for scale, if you wanted the tower to appear tall with the fence as a reference for the viewer, then I think you nailed it. The tower definitely feels tall to me when I watch the video.
I hope this is helpful despite the lack of technical feedback. Keep making things!
Thank you for all the constructive feedback!
I’ll make it brighter next time, I like the idea with the sparks!
The jerks showed up due to a fault in the keyframes that I failed to resolve.
