Critical feedback - Topology: Head

Hello, i have been working on a character for a long time now, and i have remade it about 6 or 7 times now, and im finally happy with the resoult.

KEEP IN MIND i havent tweeked anything so if you find something to be out of shape, then ignore that for now, all i want you to focus on is the topology.

if you would like to edit the model, feel free to do so, but please duplicate the object and edit the one on the side so i can easier see what changes you made.

feedback and eddited blend files are appreciated

your topology is fine, but I would suggest adding an additional edge loop around the eyes if you intend to animate them. also they seemed spaced a bit far apart, but that is not a topology issue.

thank you. so you dont see anything that can be improved on the topology? im still working on the eyes, its that one thing i just cant get to look right… but yeah maybe they are too far apart…

You’ve got a number of poles in your mesh. These are verts that connect three or five edges. I’ve marked some of them with red dots. Poles are unavoidable, since they appear when two loops go off in different directions, such as the pole over the eye, where the face loop (which crosses the forehead and goes along the jawline) separates from the eye loop.

Now, you may notice that your face loop, at least the one that makes that pole, goes under the nose rather than under the chin. The next loop out is a true face loop, since it does follow the jaw line (more or less) once past the eye sockets. That’s not a big deal.

However, you want to try to avoid poles when they are avoidable. The yellow band of faces begins as a mouth loop, but then veers off to go behind the head. The blue band of faces begins as a muzzle loop (that’s the loop that surrounds the nose and the mouth) but it, too, veers off to go behind the head. If you fix these two, you will get rid of a couple of those poles, and you’ll have a much more solid structure for adding details or animating.

Regarding the eyes: You are basically modeling the skin, and there is no skin inside the eye sockets. There is skin in the eyelids, which close on top of the eyeballs, so you may want to remove everything inside the sockets, and add some faces for eyelids, so your character will be able to close her eyes or blink. Putting in eyelids will also force you to define the corners of the eyes, which are currently somewhat vague.

Thank you Orinoko, i will see what i can do.
