Surprised this wasn’t posted already, but a few days ago, Crytek released Cryengine 5.0 for free… or so.
They’re calling it “Pay what you want”. Here’s the full news https://www.cryengine.com/news/introducing-cryengine-v-a-letter-to-our-community
Some might say it’s a bit too late to join the party, but if you ask me, cry engine will definitely gain traction among indie developers in a short time. It’s the free-est of the free. It’s a complete engine unlike unity for example where even basic features have to be bought in the market place or created manually. It’s got an amazing terrain editor with cool water simulation. Nice vehicle editor, character editor, procedural clouds, dynamic time of day, fluid particle system, etc.
I for one will definitely consider moving to cry engine. They’ve even added C# support, so new developers especially those from unity will definitely have an easier transition.
So what do you think?
