ctrl j/join function not working

I was following a tutorial (exactly) when i cam across the ctrl j join function. I selected all the objects I wanted to join then pressed ctrl j but nothing appears to happen. The objects are from add>surface>NURBS Curve then I closed then I closed the curve. Plz can anyone point out where I am going wrong?

give the link to the tutorial you are working on and what stage you are at in it.

I think you first need to convert Nurbs to mesh before joining them

Seems to be working here in what will become Release Candidate 1.

Did you forget to press F? More info, please.

Thanks. I pressed f and it works. It would have been helpful if the tutorial had mentioned that.
