CUDA error: Out of memory in cuLaunchKernel

I get this error when trying to render with my gpu. CUDA error: Out of memory in cuLaunchKernel(cuPathTrace, xblocks , yblocks, 1, xthreads, ythreads, 1, 0, 0, args, 0)

Does anyone know what causes this? I got a GTX 760, it has 2GB mem. Running Blender 2.73a on Debian Wheezy. It dosen’t matter what I try to render, I get the same error even with just a cube with a diffuse texture.

I did search other posts and google, but nothing helpful came up. By the way, the link in the gpu sticky is broken.

Thanks for any info on this or hints on how to debug it, I appreaciate it.

Hi, some user report problems after nvidia driver update from repository on Debian/Ubuntu/Mint.
The drivers are incomplete.
Use only Blender from blender.org, Blender from repository is also incomlete.
Make sure you not in “Experimental” render mode.
There are several threads in this section, two only on last page.

Thanks for the tip. But I don’t use the drivers from the repo, I use the ones from NVIDIA, compiled them myself. I’ll go see if there is an update though, the ones I use now are 340.32.

I have the same problem with experimental mode. Even with an empty scene without any sss or volume shaders.

Tested with 350.12 and 335.23 drivers on win 7 and win 10.

Comp spec. gtx 590 3gb, q8300, 8gb ram
