I used a background image to create an exact curve for the letter Y.
Then I pressed C to close the curve of the Y.
Now I wanted to use ‘Extrude’ out of the Geometry panel (see red square in attachment) to extrude this Y.
Unfortunately I got only a distorted Y, the face of the Y gets distorted somehow.
But it does not extrude.
Then I created a simple curve circle for comparison, this one I can extrude without any problem, see attachment. Why I cannot extrude my Y?
Thanks for any help
(I am on Blender 255. iMax i7, Mac OS X 10.6.5)
it seems that solves the problem, but I don’t understand.
My question now is why I have to set a Z-value under Scale?
If I extrude the circle I don’t have to do that, the Scale Z-value increases automatically when I increase the Extrude-value.
But for my Y I have to do that? Why?
When you extrude, it extrudes along the objects z-axis (in effect it is its z dimension) so you need something greater than a zero scale factor for the z-axis for it to work. You have rotated the object 90 degrees along the x-axis so the objects local z-axis is the same as the world y-axis.
