curve to IPO

How can I convert object animation that folow curve to an IPO.
I suppose that this question isn’t here for the first time. so maybe you remmeber the link to solution.

Sorry, but i can only find general Curve, Constraint and Animation Stuff. Nothing about converting. :-? Please, do You have a Link.

I searched the Manual up and down. I can’t find anything about Curve to IPO converting! If Blender can do that now, there is no need to update my Script to 2.3x. That would save me a lot of work.
