recently ive been watching alot of the bike building shows on the discovery channel…and i got inspired to try modeling a chopper… here it is so far…long way to go
I have a suggestion for you once you get that thing finished. Take it to a Harley shop, with a couple of different sample paint jobs on it. Tell them that for a fee, you will provide a virtual paint job for anyone who is thinking about painting their scooter a certain way, but is unsure of how the outcome might look. Trust me, bikers will be knocking down your door for more. Learn how to use UV mapping, Vertex paint, and texture paint, and you should be able to simulate just about any paint job no problem. Maybe have a set of custom samples ready to go for the guy who just wants a nice looking paint job, but has no idea what.
scooter
For the sake of of all thing holy and sacred please do not call a harley a “scooter”.
Nice work, keep it up scrappy.
Um, I have worked for bikers for years, playing music, and there are three commonly accepted terms for ‘Harley Davidson Motorcycle’.
-
Hawg
-
Scooter
-
Ride
That is all.
yea…that would be cool to do paint examples…i am planning on uv mapping some bad @$$ flames on this too
That would be riteous.
Now all you need is that guy from Orange County Choppers yelling at you about finishing it. Oh man thats a good design though. It reminds me of a dangerous cream-cicle. Mmmmm…delicious. Just don’t forget you’ll actually need to include the chain eventually. My only tip is to lose the “speckles” on the paint. I know you’re probably going for that metallic look but I’d at least tone them down a little.
heres a little update with a quick flame job
AWESOME START!
those flames are coool!

hey, I saw the shows and got excactly the same idea (“Wouldn’t it be the coolest thing ever if I could model my own chopper!”) but after thinking about it I decided to go for a radical car design. But at least it will have the wheels that Jessie James personally designed and cut by computer in front of the camera.
Anyway, looks great so far. Waiting for the entire bike!
P.S. Modron, I think it’s pronounced hog not hawg (source: gta vice city :D)
Coming along nicely!
Awesome flames!!
Change the tire material so it’s a tad brighter, and give it tread!
Modron: I cede your point.
thanx for the C&C…i am working on this every day and updates are always on their way…if anyone has any paint schemes they think would look better …please share, the orange with black flames isn’t perminant i am pretty good with photoshop…so just about anything is possible.
I feel like such a weenie when I look at work this good. It takes me hours to come up with anything that looks 1/100th as good.
ok i think i found the paint scheme im gonna go with on this bike…tribal cut out and old rusted looking metal airbrush job under the shiny red paint…what do u think?
I’ve been watching a bit too much Discovery Channel myself lately, and I’ve been inspired to do something similar. I hope mine turns out half as good as what you’ve got so far.
not bad…
the red in that last image seems a bit too… well… red. Try playing around with the lighting and colour to give it a bit more depth…

I think the other paint job looked more realistic…this one seems to look more like plastic. But the tribal cutout is fantastic and I’d definitely do something with it.
you aught to give us a quick walk through of how you modeled the rims and all on the tire chasis (or whatever you call it) I’m curious how you got all those holes so quickly and easily… and how’d you get that kind of a metalic look?
here is the basic tutorial for the inner rim…just using nurbs http://members.yourlink.net/gruff/wheel/ the brake rotors were done the same way, then converted to mesh so i could UV map the worn part where the brake would rub…are you asking about the chrome or the metallic orange?? well for the orange, its a base color with about 5 or 6 texture layers including blend, noise, clouds, and an image to give it the reflection…for the chrome, just get any decent res. image with persistant variations…i use an image of the sky with a decent cloud to blue sky cover ratio and for the settings…well here u go
that’s purty cool, I still don’t see how you make a face out of it though quickly and easily
