I’m giving blender a try and I’m struggling a bit with the interface. This seems like a silly question, but I can’t figure out how to cut some mesh vertices from one object and paste them into another one. I don’t see “cut” in any menus or the hotkey map. Am I overlooking it? Thanks.
Select the chosen vertices and press shift-d to duplicate them, press enter or right click to finish duplication, press p and choose selected to seperate them into another object. Tab into object mode select the newly dupliacted mesh object then shift select the the object you want to copy to and press ctrl-j to join the mesh objects.
Thanks. That’s a counter-intuitive way to do it, but it works. For what I was trying to do, I could stop at the separate command. Interesting software.
i also think there is a maya-to-blender hotkey/shortcut conversion script or template or something like that somewhere around here…
being multiplatform from the really old days, the copy/cut/paste buffer is not used as perfectly valid other ideas (as per Hazza) evolved. I used Maya for awhile as well, but geez, between the horsepower needed and the cost, why? Blender is a little more…quirky…I guess is a good word for a totally non-Microsoft different approach, but I now love it. Especially the upgrade fees…
That would be great – I haven’t been able to find it though. Aren’t the hotkeys locked?
Well, for one, every job I’ve had in the past seven years was on Maya, and I believe this will continue for some time. I’m hoping that I can convert my home studio to Blender someday, but the animation tools aren’t quite there yet. The keys are too difficult to access for editing. I’m hoping somebody will code a good graph editor and dopesheet for blender someday. But like I said, it’s an interesting program and I wish the developers well.
