CVS download

okay, well i’m extremely embarressed to post this here, :expressionless: but i’ve looked on elysiun and blender.org for over an hour and cannot seem to find where you would download the new cvs versions. i would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction or give me a link. thanks so much!

Edit:/ Oh, and if it helps, i am using windows, a Dell Dimension 2400.

Testing builds section at blender.org would be a good way to start

cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/bf-blender login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/bf-blender co blender
cd blender
scons
checkinstall scons install

*** When prompted for the password, just press enter
*** You will likely need a few deps, but I can’t tell you what to install since I’m not sure if you are windows or linux, and if linux, what distro.

Since not everyone does CVS updates as part of their daily job, this may help too:

And yes, you can get WinCVS, gCVS and command-line version for Windows (CVSNT) at http://www.wincvs.org/

For building
http://www.blender.org/cms/Building_Blender.117.0.html

For windows you can get free version of Microsoft compiler here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=272BE09D-40BB-49FD-9CB0-4BFA122FA91B&displaylang=en

and build with make/scons (freebie does not understand projectfiles) or get cygwin. It’s also possible to build with MinGW but it requires some source hacking.

EDIT: Also, all is a rather hefty download, up to 200 or so MB depending on what you already have. And be prepared for initial build to take up several hours. Subsequent updates are much lighter and faster.

I’m pretty clueless when it comes to networking packages, and it took me a long time to figure out CVS.

The "how-to"s on blender.org are a little out-of-date, but still very good for helping you get up-an-running with CVS and building blender.

You’ll probably want to install QT libraries and stuff: this will require StuffIt to decompress the .sit files.

Hope this helps.

okay, you now have permission to freely insult me for my CVS stupidity. lol. %| Anyway, following Tridents post (the link), when i go to admin>login and type in what i’m supposed to (which i copied and pasted from the post) i get this message.

Python 2.4.2 (#67, Sep 28 2005, 12:41:11) [MSC v.1310 32 bit (Intel)] on win32

***** CVS exited normally with code 1 *****

I totally would like to be able to play around with all particle, fluid, and softbody features! Thanx!

Just go to www.blender.org and on the right hand side of the page is a link to the developers forum. In the forum is a area for testing builds. Download one for your machine and blend away. If you are have problems with cvs chances are you won’t get it compiled without inveesting a lot of time learning.

P.S. They have released the official 2.40rc1 for linux with other platforms to follow shortly. It might be best to just wait for a day.

Remove the trailing space so that command would read:
cvs -d ":pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/bf-blender" login
instead of
cvs -d ":pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/bf-blender " login

hope, this would work
