Cycles 2.71 Dynamic Paint Image Sequence - fail when start at later time

When attempting to have dynamic paint applied to an animation further in the timeline (for example frames 280-300) the image sequence used as texture loads the whole sequence immediately, so that the paint precedes the brush. It works as it should (the texture progresses with the movement of the brush) when starting from the beginning of the timeline (frame 1). The image sequence is baked and numbered properly. Any ideas out there?

In the above example, the start frame needs to be 25 (the number of the 1st file) and the offset 24 (the number before first frame). It works like that.
